DSM joins Origin open materials network and introduces Somos PerFORM HW material

DSM has become the latest company to join Origin’s open materials network and will showcase its first material optimised for the company’s programmable photopolymerisation process (P3) at RAPID + TCT.

The companies will work together to develop materials and applications for the P3 technology in accordance with customer feedback. The first material to come from the alliance is the Somos PerFORM HW, which shares the strength, stiffness and high temperature resistance that DSM’s standard product boasts. It is said to be a suitable material for tooling and housing applications. 

“The quality and surface finish we’re seeing with Somos PerFORM HW on Origin’s P3 process are outstanding and unparalleled,” commented Noud Steffens, Market Development Director Additive Manufacturing at DSM. “Origin provides an unprecedented degree of control so users can get consistent commercial-grade results using Somos PerFORM HW and soon other DSM materials.”

DSM becomes the third company with expertise in material development to join the network after BASF in November and Henkel earlier this year. Origin, who came out of stealth mode six months ago, is harnessing an open approach to materials to expand the choice on offer to users of its P3 process as they bid to enable mass production. The first Origin machine will launch at RAPID + TCT next week, and Origin believes the addition of DSM is a significant step towards achieving its ambitions.

Origin will present its P3 technology at RAPID + TCT from Booth #2153 and DSM will showcase its materials products from Booth #303.
