Charlamagne tha God commissioned a 3D printed pendant of Nipsey Hussle for Lauren London

The recent death of rapper Nipsey Hussle shocked the world, and many mourned the loss of the talented lyricist and community activist, who strove to better the Los Angeles neighbourhood he grew up in. Hussle’s long time partner, Lauren London, received outpourings of support in the wake of his death from the music community and entertainment world at large. Most recently, London received a special gift in memorial of Hussle from Charlamagne tha God: a gold 3D printed pendant of Hussle’s face.

The striking piece of commemorative jewelry was designed and made by Greg Yuna, a renowned jeweler known for making pieces for Drake, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Meek Mill, among others.

Yuna and his team worked tirelessly to create a CAD model based off of a photo of Hussle’s profile. As the jewelry maker told Hypebeast, they worked to capture as many details as possible in the model to make the piece as iconic and representative of the late rapper as possible.

Once the 3D model was finalized, the pendant was 3D printed using a state-of-the-art 3D printer. The 3D printed model was used to create a mold to ultimately cast the pendant from gold. The gold pieces were then finished using lasers—for Hussle’s tattoos—and a hand-selected, full-cut diamond which was placed in his ear.

The final piece is inspiring. The details on the pendant’s face are intricate and realistic, while the back of the pendant is emblazoned with the words “God will rise” and a paisley pattern that harkens back to the rapper’s roots.

Charlamagne tha God commissioned the piece and Yuna says he was more than happy to oblige. In fact, the jeweler wanted to make a tribute piece to the musical legend in general.

Nipsey Hussle died at the age of 33 after being shot outside of his L.A. store on March 31, 2019. Memorial services have been held for the influential artist who sought to engage disenfranchised youths from Los Angeles in STEM education.
