Sigma Labs becomes member of Fraunhofer IAPT’s Additive Alliance network

Sigma Labs has been named as a member of Fraunhofer IAPT’s Additive Alliance, which aims to drive the additive manufacturing sector forward through shared knowledge.

Joining the likes of Airbus, Daimler, EOS, SLM Solutions, Trumpf, Simufact, Premium Aerotec, Sigma Labs becomes the first American company to take part in the global research cooperative established in 2014. The platform will allow Sigma Labs to demonstrate the capabilities of its PrintRite3D quality assurance software to some of the biggest metal additive manufacturing users and vendors during regular network meetings.

Sigma Labs joins Additive Alliance two months after announcing Fraunhofer IAPT had agreed to test and validate the use of PrintRite3D’s In-Process-Quality-Assurance suite. Here, the Fraunhofer division was looking to identify and quantify machine and process inconsistencies and define defect thermal signatures in the part formation process and correlate them to CT scan results.

As part of that agreement, Fraunhofer IAPT upgraded its PrintRite3D system to the newest version, which launched at Formnext in 2018. It seems it has seen enough from the software platform to invite Sigma Labs to join the Additive Alliance group.

“We are happy to welcome Sigma Labs as a new member of our Additive Alliance and to strengthen the competences of the network in the field of quality assurance in AM,” commented Antje Vosshenrich, Head of Additive Alliance, Fraunhofer IAPT. “In-Process quality assurance will be a key enabler for industrialisation of AM.”
